naviance

Some families may have recently received an email regarding a class action lawsuit involving Naviance, a college and career readiness platform that our district used in the past.

We wanted to let you know that this email is legitimate. After receiving several inquiries from families, our district contacted PowerSchool, the company that owns Naviance, to verify its authenticity. PowerSchool confirmed that the email was sent as part of a court-approved notification process related to a proposed class action settlement. According to PowerSchool, notifications were sent in June to current Naviance customers, so districts like ours that no longer use the platform did not receive advance notification.

Our district transitioned from Naviance to Scoir at the start of the 2025–2026 school year and no longer uses the Naviance platform.

PowerSchool also shared that this matter is not related to a data breach or cybersecurity incident involving Naviance or any other PowerSchool product. The lawsuit concerns allegations regarding the historical use of certain third-party analytics technologies within the Naviance platform. PowerSchool denies any wrongdoing and states that no student data was compromised.

For your convenience, we have attached the FAQ document that PowerSchool sent us in response to our question. It contains additional information about the settlement, who may have received the notification, and answers to frequently asked questions.

If you have questions about the settlement itself, please refer to the attached FAQ.
