Gifted and Talented

There are many opportunities for students to excel in the West Morris Regional High School District. Students may take Honors level classes in grades 9 and 10, Advanced Placement courses in grades 10, 11, and 12, and enroll in the International Baccalaureate Program for grades 11 and 12. Students may complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or the International Baccalaureate Career-Related Program. The IB Program in the West Morris Regional High School District includes courses in Math, Science, History/Social Science, World Language, and Language Arts, as well as electives such as Business, Music, Art, and Design Technology. The International Baccalaureate Program also includes Theory of Knowledge and Personal and Professional Skills courses to promote critical thinking, research, and ways of knowing.

Criteria for students to enroll in Honors, AP, and IB courses include prior course grades in relevant areas, student interest, and student performance on standardized assessments including the NJSLA, PreACT, ACT, and PSAT. Students and their parents meet with the student's assigned College and Career Counselor each year to collaboratively select courses for the following year. A waiver form is available to students and parents from the Director of Student Personnel Services in each building. The form must be completed before June 30 of the preceding school year and a student must remain in the course/level waived into for at least the first marking period and may be required to remain in the course/level waived into if other levels are at their maximum enrollment.
