SEPAG

WANTED:

Parent volunteers to serve on the West Morris Regional High School District’s

Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG).  The Department of Special Services seeks representatives of students with disabilities who attend in-district programs, our ASPIRE program, and students attending schools outside of the district.

What is a Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG)?

A Special Education Parent Advisory Group, or SEPAG, is a state-mandated, district-level, parent-driven committee of the Board of Education charged with providing input into the local school district on system-level challenges in special education and related services (N.J.A.C. 6A:14-1.2(h)).

What is the purpose of a SEPAG?

A SEPAG gives parents the opportunity to provide direct input to their school district about policies, programs, practices, and services that have an impact on students with disabilities and their families.  An effective SEPAG can increase the proactive involvement of families by inviting input that can be used to shape local special education policy and programs.

Who should serve as a representative of SEPAG?

Each district’s SEPAG should have representation from parents of students in a wide variety of educational placements, including in-class resource classes, replacement programs such as resource rooms or self-contained programs, as well as out-of-district placements.

If you are interested in serving as a representative of SEPAG, or would simply like to participate in the SEPAG process to provide input, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at 7:00 PM at West Morris Central High School in the Media Center.  We will be convening a meeting of all interested parties to coordinate structure and activities for the coming year.

In addition to identifying participants for our advisory board, the night’s agenda will include an overview of services currently available to students in the West Morris Regional High School District (including students attending out-of-district schools) and receiving input into budget priorities for the 2023-2024 school year.
