Extended School Year (ESY)


Extended School Year (ESY) provides additional learning opportunities for Life Skills and ASPIRE students. Students are engaged in lessons and activities to continue to grow academically. Students also participate in Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunities and Community-Based Instruction (CBI) experiences. ESY is located at West Morris Central High School for the month of July.
ESY Work-Based Learning Experiences (WBL):
Students (age 16 or older) in ESY can participate in WBL opportunities to gain valuable experience in a work environment. ASPIRE students complete WBL as part of their ESY schedule. Life Skills students will have the chance to sample some in-school work experiences.

- Coffee Cart
- Office Assistance
- Gardening
- Custodial Assistance/Maintenance
ASPIRE students may have WBL experiences outside of the school building.

ESY Community-Based Instruction (CBI):
Students can participate in various CBI experiences during Extended School Year. CBI activities provide students an opportunity to see the community and learn more about the skills needed to successfully navigate the world outside the classroom. In addition, students learn about the jobs and skills needed to work at these various establishments. Listed below are some examples of CBI experiences the program has visited.

- Shopping (Grocery, Retail, and Household Essentials)
- Restaurants
- Library
- Coffee Shops
- Seasonal Specialty Events
- Post Office
- Police Station
