| Our Partnership
with IBM . . . |
|
| IBMs commitment to
K-12 education has been nationally and internationally recognized. That is why the West
Morris Regional High School District is especially proud of its strategic business
partnership with IBM Corp. Together, IBM and West Morris have partnered on several
technology initiatives over the years in an effort to enhance student achievement. The
ultimate goal in building a partnership with IBM is for West Morris to become a "State-of-the-Art"
technology showcase for education in the State of New Jersey. |

|
Laptops for Teachers |
|
| All teachers within the
West Morris Regional High School District currently own a laptop computer for use in the
classroom and at home. The IBM Thinkpads were purchased by the district through Distance
Learning funding from the state of New Jersey. Laptops for Teachers is part of the West
Morris Regional High School District's Laptop Initiative which began in 1998 to enhance
communication skills, time and resource management, creativity, and technology use in the
teaching and learning process. In 1998, laptops were distributed to a test group of 44
teachers. The success of the program led to the purchase of additional laptops for all
teachers which were distributed to them in March 2001. |

Computers on Wheels |
|
| Computers on Wheels,
also known by teachers as C.O.W., is part of the West Morris Regional High School
District's Laptop Initiative. C.O.W. is a program that provides teachers and students with
mobile carts containing IBM laptops with wireless technology. Each computer cart holds 25
laptop computers that teachers may use in their classrooms to supplement the curriculum.
Each student receives his or her own laptop to work with during the class period. C.O.W.
has been used in district classrooms for a variety of unique learning activities including
art analysis on the web, career research, stock market competitions, peer-editing and
interactive science lessons. |

IBM Learning Village |
|
| As part of its continuing technology
initiative, the West Morris Regional High School District has begun to utilize IBM's Learning
Village software. The district was able to enter into a partnership with IBM
and purchase the software through winning a federal education Goals 2000
grant. By entering into a consortium with the Chester, Mendham Borough, Mendham
Township, and Washington Township school districts, as well as with St. Joseph School and
Centenary College, our schools will be able to use IBM's Learning Village to
share information and connect with each other in a variety of ways. In its initial phases, Learning Village
will be most useful in providing our educational community with calendar information and a
chance to view teacher home pages. As we continue to implement and refine the
software, other parts of the program will be made available. Beginning November 1st,
teachers will start to post home pages that can be viewed by both their students and the
general public. All teacher home pages will be fully in place by February 1.
The Events@School calendars will also be in place soon.
To view the Learning Village
applications, simply click here
for West Morris Central High School, or click here
for West Morris Mendham High School, and select "Guest." If you wish to
view faculty home pages, select the Home Page Designer icon (the one with the
spider web logo). The faculty home pages are listed alphabetically by last
name. In the coming months, we will begin to formally register students and
community members as fully registered users of the Learning Village applications
in the West Morris district. |
